A mother was tired of convincing her children to have more autonomy and pursue a life outside the home and resented having to support them. She obtained an eviction order from the court against the 40 and 42 year old children. The case took place in Italy.

The information was published this Thursday (26) by the British newspaper “The Guardian” and local media in Italy. The case occurred in the city of Pavia in the north of the country.

According to the 75yearold woman, her children work and did not want to help with housework.

In Judge Simona Caterbi’s decision, as the Guardian reported, citing Italian media outlet La Provincia Pavese, the judge said that although the two men lived in the house, she reasoned that it was “the property of the parents ” be. As “food requirements” applied, this was no longer acceptable given their age.

Also according to the Guardian, according to data from 2022, almost 70% of Italians between the ages of 18 and 34 (mostly men) still live at home with their parents.

Although in Italy there has always been a culture in which many generations live under one roof, the number of young adults staying longer in the family home has increased in recent years, mainly due to economic crises and the long time it takes to find a permanent job.

This fact led the Italians to coin a name for this people: “bamboccioni” (big babies, in a free translation from Italian).

According to the Guardian, the term was first used by an Italian politician in 2007 to mock adults who still lived with their parents, suggesting that some pursued this lifestyle for the convenience of free accommodation and food.
