The Dark Side of the Moon celebrates its fiftieth birthday

“The Dark Side of the Moon” celebrates its fiftieth birthday

The legendary Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and will be the subject of a re-release and a special edition.

With over 45 million copies sold, it is the third most popular album of all time in terms of sales.

According to music columnist Mike Gauthier, all the elements were in place to make it a success.

“It came at the right time in the ’70s when there was a new generation of music lovers,” he explains. The cover is legendary, there was also the mystery told through the words of Roger Waters, with the execution of the four musicians also on the album. The combinations were all there and the result was the third best-selling album of all time.”

It was also one of the first “concept albums”.

“It was Roger Waters who came in his late twenties and realized that life moves fast, and he said to himself, ‘If I realize that, there’s probably a lot of people who do that too,’ he wanted to share that and a lot of people recognized themselves in it,” says Mr Gauthier.

As part of the 50th anniversary, a reissue of songs from the album is planned.

This is performed solely by Roger Waters without the help of the other members of the group, which is debatable.

“He’s already resisted that in an interview with a British journalist, saying he has his vision and it’s not just what came out on the original album,” the columnist continues. He therefore wants to realize his own vision, for example by giving the song Money a more scenic vision.

However, this new edition could be overshadowed by an anniversary box that the company will be selling with an improved sound system.

Fans of Pink Floyd can also visit the Their Mortal Remains exhibition, which traces the group’s journey through March 5 at Montreal’s Arsenal Contemporary Art.

William Sandeson guilty of second-degree murder of Taylor Samson

William Sandeson, now 30, argued in the Nova Scotia Supreme Court that he killed physics student Taylor Samson in self-defense on August 15, 2015.

According to the Crown, Sandeson was heavily in debt and killed the victim with a gun because he would not pay for the nine kilos of cannabis that Taylor Samson had brought to his home.

Taylor Samson’s body was never found.

The jury members have deliberated for 23 hours since Thursday before returning their guilty verdict at Dartmouth Courthouse late Saturday afternoon.

Sandeson was convicted of first-degree murder in 2017, but the conviction was overturned by an appeals court, which ordered a new trial in 2020.

Under the Criminal Code, anyone convicted of second-degree murder must be sentenced to life in prison, but the judge can determine that they can apply for parole after serving 10 to 25 years in prison.

The victim’s relatives can speak on April 20-21. William Sandeson’s sentencing is due at this time.

The command center adds that the raid was the subject of extensive planning to ensure its success and states that no one was injured or killed in the operation.

This event comes two days after an Islamic State armed group officer, Hamza al-Homsi, was killed in another CENTCOM helicopter raid, this time in the north-east of the country, which left four American soldiers injured.

Mom wants to know why 19-month-old daughter came home with scratches after toddler attack

Nursery Baby Brawl! The outraged Louisiana mom wants to know why the 19-month-old daughter came home “mangled” and covered in scratches after she was “attacked by a toddler aged ONE”.

  • A Louisiana mother searches for an attack on her 19-month-old daughter at Angel’s Haven Daycare in New Orleans
  • Cymande Ford described the horror of the incident after she was called to school to see her baby daughter after a fight with a one-year-old
  • She found her daughter with multiple bite marks on both arms and legs that were visible and required medical attention

A Louisiana mother is looking for answers after her young daughter was “attacked” and left with bite marks and red scratches all over her body after attending a New Orleans preschool.

The incident happened about a week ago at Angel’s Haven Daycare in the city’s Hollygrove area.

Mum Cymande Ford was so distraught that she is now determined to find out what really happened and has gone public in hopes of spurring a response from the daycare.

The first thing Ford knew something was wrong came after a call from the school principal.

When she went to kindergarten, she found her 19-month-old daughter with multiple bite marks on her arms and legs.

Harley Ford, who is just 19 months old, went to a daycare in New Orleans but had red scratches all over her body within hours of leaving

“Relive it is just a horror,” Ford told News19. ‘I understand [Harley’s] face and it looks like it’s been mauled by a cat so I start screaming, I’m crying, I dropped my purse, and I’m asking what happened. I took Harley and I’m just asking [the school’s director] What happened.’

The director of the daycare told Ford that daughter Harley was involved in a “fight” with another one-year-old.

Photos of Harley show the young woman with claw marks all over her face, including her cheeks and forehead.

‘[She has] seven bites in one arm. A couple bites the other arm. She’s wearing pants, but [the 1-year-old] bit through both legs,” explained Ford. “You can see the teeth marks. They are clear and visible.”

Ford immediately took her daughter to the hospital for doctors to examine her.

Ford, who runs her own business, is now concerned about sending Harley back to daycare.

“It was hard enough for me to send my child to kindergarten because I am an entrepreneur. It’s just crazy that this is happening on her third day after something I’ve already struggled with so much,” Ford told WHNT.

The family has since filed a complaint with the New Orleans Police Department and the Department of Children and Family Services is now investigating the matter.

The director of the daycare declined to comment on the issue when contacted by a local news station in the area.

Israeli missile hits building in central Damascus five dead

Israeli missile hits building in central Damascus, five dead – Portal.com

AMMAN, Feb 19 (Portal) – An Israeli rocket attack hit a building in the central Kafr Sousa district near a large, heavily guarded security complex near Iranian facilities early Sunday, killing five people, witnesses and officials said.

The rare, well-aimed strike damaged several buildings in the densely populated neighborhood near Umayyad Square in the heart of the capital, where multi-storey security buildings are located in residential areas.

A police official said in state media there were several casualties and injuries.

A spokesman for the Israeli military declined to comment.

Citing a military source, state media said Israel carried out airstrikes on several areas in the capital just after midnight, killing five and injuring 15 civilians and damaging several residential buildings.

“It caused damage to several civilian houses and material damage in a number of neighborhoods in and around Damascus,” the army said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear if the strike was aimed at a specific person.

The top commander of pro-Iranian Hezbollah, Imad Moughniyeh, was killed in a 2008 bomb attack in Kafr Sousa, a heavily patrolled area that residents say is home to several Iranian security agencies, including a major cultural center.

For nearly a decade, Israel has been conducting airstrikes against suspected Iranian-sponsored arms transfers and personnel deployments in neighboring Syria. Israeli officials have rarely acknowledged responsibility for specific operations.

Iran has increased its military presence in Syria in recent years, gaining a foothold in most state-controlled areas, with thousands of members of militias and local paramilitary groups under its command, Western intelligence sources say.

Israel has also ramped up attacks on Syrian airports and airbases in recent months to disrupt Iran’s increasing use of air supply lines to deliver arms to allies in Syria and Lebanon, including Iran-backed Hezbollah.

The attacks are part of an escalation of a low-intensity conflict aimed at slowing Iran’s growing entrenchment in Syria, Israeli military experts say.

Iran’s proxy militias, led by Lebanon’s Hezbollah, now control vast areas of eastern, southern and northwestern Syria and several suburbs around the capital.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government has never publicly admitted that Iranian forces are operating on its behalf in Syria’s civil war, saying Tehran only has military advisers on the ground.

End of the road for Southern California dealership Cal Worthington after more than 40 years

Long Beach, CA - February 18: A photocopy of a large photo of Cal Worthing at the Worthington Ford dealership on Saturday February 18, 2023 in Long Beach, CA. Worthington was famous for his TV commercials, which always included a catchy jingle, and his dog

Make no mistake, boy, Southern California is auto country.

So auto dealer Calvin Coolidge Worthington decided to have a little fun, draw attention, and clear his lots with My Dog Spot TV commercials featuring a live, growling gorilla.

The commercials, which also featured animals other than a dog named Spot — a penguin, camel, elephant, bear, lion, hippopotamus, and tiger — helped Worthington build an empire of 27 merchants that sold more than 1 million cars sold.

Many of these commercials were filmed under the large “Worthington Ford in Long Beach” sign at the dealership he bought in 1963.

Now this sign marks the end of an era. Worthington’s family said they sold the 3-acre store, the last dealership to still bear the name of the legendary car salesman, who died in 2012.

“It’s very sad,” Nick Worthington, Cal’s grandson, said in an interview with ABC7. “Our employees have been with us for over 40 years.

“It’s a part of everyone’s childhood and life that grows up here,” he added. “It’s hard to close this book to everyone.”

On Saturday, Shawn Abdallah, the dealership’s finance director, said news of the sale “came as a shock, although there have been rumors for a number of months that something like this was in the works.”

“The rumors were confirmed on Thursday,” he said, “when Nick had everyone gathered here in a conference room for some important news.

“He said, ‘You’ve probably heard the rumors and today I’m here to confirm them.’ ‘ Abdallah recalled. “He was very emotional. And yes, there were tears everywhere.”

The buyer, Nouri/Shaver Automobile Group, plans to keep all of Worthington Ford’s employees, but they will have to reapply for their jobs, Abdallah said.

The iconic large blue “Worthington” sign overlooking Bellflower Boulevard, Abdallah said, “will not be taken down until March 1.”

Meanwhile, visitors don’t have to go far to see reminders of the flashy stunts that made the Oklahoma transplant hard-selling during a 65-year career that made him an icon of quirky Southern California culture.

The story goes on

The showroom of the shiny new Ford models, for example, features a floor-to-ceiling photo of Worthington, cheek to cheek, with a tiger: the most likeable of all animals, which has helped him develop a cult following.

It’s reminiscent of a quirky time when here, in the capital of auto and highway culture, car salesmen dressed like Napoleon wore haloes and adopted exotic animals for a sale.

Worthington’s signature gimmicks were the “Dog Spot” ads, which first aired in 1971. They were originally intended to be parodies of two competitors: Ralph Williams and Fletcher Jones.

Williams had launched an advertising campaign featuring a German shepherd named Storm, and Jones made appearances on television cuddling puppies.

“I decided to imitate her,” Worthington recalled in an interview. So he borrowed a gorilla, chained it to a car bumper and let the cameras roll.

Trying to appear unperturbed, the lanky pitchman, wearing a cowboy hat and a broad grin, launched this typically folksy tactic with greetings: “Howdy, I’m Cal Worthington and this is my dog Spot.”

“I found this little guy at the animal shelter,” he added, smiling, “and he’s so full of love.”

The dealership’s new owners will change the name to BP Ford.

This story originally appeared in the Los Angeles Times.
