Who are we expecting at the NEXT Summit NYC

Who are we expecting at the NEXT Summit NYC – SOCIT – EstriePlus.com | Web News Journal | Sherbrooke

The NEXT Summit New York, launched in 2016, brings together the large number of players in the iGaming industry. This year it will take place in Manhattan from March 5th to 7th. It concentrates the most influential companies in the industry, with no less than 300 gaming companies (sports betting and online casino), around a hundred start-ups, as well as a multitude of personalities who are changing the field day after day.

Fans of online casinos for French players know this well: it is important that the industry comes together to define the goals and challenges for this year 2024, a year dedicated to community gambling but also to the support responsibility for the mental (and financial) health of players. Let's take a look at the key players who will be present during the event, as well as the projects they will present on site.

Players in the iGaming market

The North American iGaming market is in excellent health and is experiencing steady revenue growth. These include the companies 1710 Gaming and Bally's Interactive, which have been an important player in the industry for many years. Evolution, the leader in live casino games, will also be in attendance. The other names inevitably remind you of something like Play'n'GO, Playtech or High 5 Games.

players in the sports world

Since the relaxation of sports betting laws in many states across the country, it can be said that sports betting operators have gigantic market opportunities ahead of them. The big names in US sports include ESPN, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League, Quebec's premier sport. These sports companies know that their interest is to go hand in hand with the new US sports betting giants such as DraftKings, FanDuel or even Partake Sports.

Among the disruptive elements of this billion-dollar market, the presence of WeTheBookie stands out. Think about it, this sportsbook is offering to put 50% of its revenue into a shared fund. The goal ? Compensate lost customers with compensation called WeShares, which will be refunded to them every month in the event of a negative balance. An innovative concept that this young company is surfing on and surprising the competition.

As we know, America's love affair with fantasy football is a passion that has burned for many decades. Players in this space such as Fantasy Life, FantasySpin or Payday Fantasy will be present on the website to communicate their goals for 2024. The industry trend has remained the same since the concept was created: give the consumer the opportunity to play with friends online. vibrant before the games of various sports with a fantasy league.

Financial actors

Since the iGaming industry is a fantastic breeding ground for investment, it's normal to see big names from the financial industry get involved! These include the investment funds Blackstone, Morgan Stanley, Citizens Bank and Nordstern Capital. We can also already count on renowned law firms (Mcdonald Carano) that represent the legal aspect of the industry.

Payment solutions are the lifeblood of online casinos and sports betting sites. We rely on Neosurf Inc or Signature Payments to keep us updated on the latest developments in the industry with the aim of making it ever easier for players to access fast, efficient and secure payment solutions.

A company like Pavilion Payments specializes in gambling payments in the US market. She will be present to explain how she positions herself in a highly competitive market and her strategy for faster and more reliable payments.

Conferences

What would an iGaming industry summit be without a wide range of conferences on key topics such as responsible gaming or the primacy of artificial intelligence in gaming? The first conference begins with a bang with a debate between Rob Heller (CEO of Spectrum Gaming) and Martin Blond, Director at EPIC.

On March 5th we will be attending a conference on the proven connection between mental health and gambling addiction. To discuss this serious topic, we will welcome Caroline Ponseti and Daniel Umfleet, both consultants from major American strategy and analyst agencies.

Is it impossible to imagine a conference in 2024 without dealing in detail with the future of AI? How can this tool definitely be integrated into a marketing approach and, above all, how can myths be distinguished from reality?

NEXT Summit NYC offers many more topics to ponder, such as the expansion of the iGaming sector in America and all the legal implications of this national craze. Looking ahead, join us for an exciting conference on industry forecasts for 2025. There is no one better than Adam Greenblatt, head of the BetMGM platform, who provides the “roadmap” for the coming years.

Video games Nintendo reaches agreement with emulator publisher

Video games: Nintendo reaches agreement with emulator publisher

Less than a week after initiating a lawsuit against an American publisher of an emulator, a program that lets you play console games freely on a phone or computer, Nintendo announced Tuesday that it had reached a settlement and dropped the lawsuits.

After negotiations with Tropic Haze, a company based in Rhode Island (Northeast) that develops and distributes Yuzu, a particularly popular emulator, Nintendo announced that it had reached an agreement for $2.4 million according to a document seen by AFP.

According to the agreement, Tropic Haze “agrees to judgment in favor of Nintendo and agrees to pay the amount of $2.4 million in favor of Nintendo” to cover damages and legal costs.

This agreement in no way prejudges the decision of the Rhode Island state courts to which Nintendo appealed, but Tropic Haze has already committed not to appeal this decision.

Yuzu was originally designed to play games linked to previous Nintendo consoles. According to the Japanese company, Yuzu now offers access to games on its current console, the Switch.

An emulator is a small computer program that can be downloaded to a computer or smartphone and allows you to play games originally intended for consoles such as Switch, PlayStation or Xbox.

Emulators were originally designed to play games that were no longer released on the latest consoles, before “vintage” gaming became its own market for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft as well.

However, you can now mostly play the latest games that have been released on current console models.

According to the Japanese giant, Tropic Haze bypasses the complex encryption and protection measures that Nintendo implements in each of its games to then make them available to Yuzu users.

A satellite to track methane leaks

A satellite to track methane leaks

A new satellite with “unprecedented” precision launched flight Monday with a mission to closely monitor methane emissions from oil and gas companies.

A text from Valerie Boisclair

After the successful launch from Vandenberg military base in California, the satellite must orbit the planet, completing 15 rotations per day in search of an invisible enemy: methane.

This greenhouse gas, which has a 20-year warming potential 80 times greater than carbon dioxide (CO2), escapes from oil and gas facilities, farms and landfills.

Colorless and odorless, methane is the main element in the composition of natural gas, a fossil energy source used to power industrial complexes and heat homes. Leaks occur throughout the production chain and the gas is released into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change.

These emissions are therefore responsible for around 30% of the global temperature increase.

Methane emissions are often underestimated and difficult to measure. Oil and gas companies can install sensors or use drones or aircraft to fly over facilities, but the data collected is incomplete and varies from source to source.

To provide the most accurate portrait possible, MethaneSAT relies on cutting-edge technology that allows it to detect concentrations of this gas over a vast area with an unprecedented level of precision, according to the NGO behind it, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). the device.

The satellite is designed to detect changes in gas concentrations in the atmosphere as low as three parts per billion.

Although satellite monitoring systems for measuring greenhouse gas emissions already exist, these are more effective when targeting a specific region. MethaneSAT will be able to detect leaks from large emitters that other satellites cannot detect, EDF states.

MethaneSAT's superpower lies in its ability to precisely measure methane levels at high resolution over large areas, including the smaller, diffuse sources that are responsible for most emissions in many regions.

Steven Hamburg, scientific director of EDF and project manager of MethaneSAT

To calculate the amount of methane emissions in a given region and monitor their evolution over time, EDF has developed algorithms in collaboration with Google.

The project also brings together nearly 70 experts, including engineers and scientists from Harvard University's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the New Zealand Space Agency.

The satellite in full production. MethaneSAT won't be the only satellite capable of detecting methane in orbit, but it will fill the gap left by satellites monitoring specific regions, according to its developers. Photo: BAE Systems

Because MethaneSAT's coverage is broader in space and time than previous satellites, it is more likely to detect large leaks, said Daniel Horen Greenford, a postdoctoral researcher specializing in geography and environmental studies and author of a report on methane leaks caused by liquefied natural gas.

The MethaneSAT stands out for its very sensitive detection system for a satellite with such a large field of view, he notes.

If other satellites, such as the Vanguard of the Quebec company GHGSat, are likely to be more effective at identifying specific emissions on a given infrastructure, it is necessary to contract private companies to conduct flights over the facilities and collect the data. Combined with on-site leak measurement work, this solution can be costly.

The fact that an organization like EDF is able to raise the necessary funds for a large-scale project like MethaneSAT's is completely unprecedented and impressive, adds Daniel Horen Greenford.

Data published

EDF's goal is to make the data obtained by MethaneSAT available to the public online, particularly on Google Earth Engine, starting next year. Governments and organizations can use this to check whether the oil and gas industry is actually working to reduce its methane emissions.

THE [suivi] Measuring local and regional methane rates in real time is an important contribution. And the fact that this data is freely accessible is a huge advantage that could significantly improve transparency and hold the industry accountable.

Daniel Horen Greenford, postdoctoral researcher

By providing this data, EDF expects to increase pressure on major polluters to do their part. It's gone [d’obtenir d’eux] more transparency to have more reliable data. The researcher explains that it will be much easier to hold the industry accountable later.

So far, 155 countries have committed to reducing their methane emissions. Also at COP28 on climate change in Dubai at the end of 2023, around fifty oil and gas companies expressed their desire to reduce these emissions by 80 to 90% by 2030.

Last January, the Biden administration proposed tightening its methane regulations by imposing a fee on excess emissions from the U.S. oil and gas sector.

For its part, Canada plans to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by at least 75% by 2030 compared to 2012 emissions.

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 15 ticks almost all the boxes: its impressive body makes no compromises, neither in terms of performance nor in battery life, and the screen is very well made, with true-to-original colors and an effective anti-reflective treatment. Our only regret at this point is that the resolution of the panel is lower than that of the best laptops.

The Asus Zenbook 15 Oled offers top-notch performance for an ultrabook, especially thanks to AMD's brave Ryzen 7, which allows it to do some video gaming escapades, and the Oled panel. The lack of anti-reflective treatment on the panel is also a point to consider if you plan to use it outdoors. However, a few small details cloud this seemingly idyllic picture, especially the battery life, which is a bit short for an Ultrabook. Right-handed users, on the other hand, will be annoyed by the grouping of ports on the right side of the ZenBook. Otherwise, it's a large-format Ultrabook worth considering, especially if you can find it at a cheaper price than its direct competitors.

Tie required gentlemen The Quebec Journal

Tie required, gentlemen! | The Quebec Journal

On Sunday I had fun confessing on Facebook, but it wasn't really a confession that I like restaurants where a jacket and tie are required.

I agree, there aren't many of them – it's almost an eccentricity today. I don't even know if we still find them in Montreal – they still exist in certain large western metropolises.

But I like the poles of resistance that withstand the flattening that all too often accompanies modernity, that hold on to a certain verticality, that preserve traditions.

I admit, but again it is not really an admission that I am sorry for the aesthetic decline of today's society, a society that seems to have forgotten that aesthetics is also an ethics, that beauty is not strictly relative and that For men and women it is important to have clothes (let's admit that men often lack it!).

Evolution in a society that is no longer able to distinguish beauty from ugliness and even confuse them comes at a cost, something that the fashion industry is often guilty of, as if indulging in a nihilistic fantasy. with creators who believe they are all-powerful and want to deface the world while believing they are liberating it. The ideology of authenticity attacks forms and in fact drives the deconstruction of both – to the point of celebrating the flaccid and soft, the formless and unstructured.

This ideology has an impact on life in society, even if that is not enough to explain it: relaxation becomes the law, behavior the exception.

All this to say that after I wrote this message on Facebook, I noticed a strong reaction. Certainly not a storm, we should not exaggerate anything, but what is clear is that there is something passionate when we touch the world of clothing, as if everyone feels negatively judged when we advocate for elegance or at least for a slightly more elegant society.

Some saw this somewhat amused appeal as a form of advocacy of elitism – and seem to forget that barely two or three generations ago citizens and workers were concerned with dressing well, each according to his abilities. Means, that goes without saying.

To be clear: I am not advocating for the compulsory tie everywhere, even if I think that it becomes once again the symbol of a form of aesthetic affirmation: it becomes the symbol of a small individual revolt against the tyranny of the formless.

But it is good that it is still required in some places, and it would be even better if they inspired other places even more so that the taste for beauty is brought back to life in everyday life. Anyone who leaves the house should always dress up a little.

Of course, elegance cannot be limited to a single model – fortunately, and I don't have the ambition to bind half of humanity to myself! But it contains some codes that we can learn – at any age. Anyone who masters these codes can then play with them.

And whatever anyone says, it's a fun game for adults that also allows you to correct some natural imperfections, unfortunately only incomplete!

And perhaps that is the point: we must finally understand that a society that uses the adolescent as a role model instead of using the adult as a role model for the adolescent is a society that will lose itself in childishness.

Masculinity needs to be restored in a society where we often try to deny it or reduce it to a form of primary and animal aggressiveness. It is inextricably linked to the concern for forms. It's not just about each individual's outfit – but we can't pretend that there is no connection between one and the other.

On your ties, gentlemen!

GTA Vice City runs like magic on a router, video proof

Researchers at Kitten Labs have shown that it is entirely possible to turn a simple TP-Link WiFi router into a gaming PC. In fact, after a few days of tinkering and installing a Linux version, these experts managed to run the cult game GTA Vice City perfectly.

GTA Vice City Router Photo credit: Kitten Labs

Taking old games and trying to make them run on anything and everything has become an essential practice in recent years. For example, we no longer count them unlikely havens of fatethe father of FPS, released in 1995.

In the past, we have mentioned on numerous occasions the exploits of several hackers to transfer the title of “Id Software” to inappropriate devices such as an exercise bike screen, a TI-83 calculator, Windows notepad, a keyboard key, etc. as of late a connected toothbrush!

But this time the focus is not on Doom, but on a certain GTA Vice City, a cult sequel to the Rockstar Games saga. In fact, researchers at Kitten Labs have shown that with a little skill and technology, this is entirely possible transform an old TP-Link WiFi router into a gaming PC able to rotate the title. Explanations.

GTA Vice City on a router, that's possible

These experts initially set their sights on it the TP-Link TL-WDR4900 WiFi router (published in 2013). Kitten Labs members appreciated it for its good performance and chose it primarily because of its NXP-Freescale QorlQ P1014 processor, which is actually a PowerPC e500v2 32-bit SoC.

Of course, the performance of the router is not everything. Since there was no slot compatible with GPUs for PC, it was necessary to use tricks Install an eGPU. After adding a miniPCIe connection, the teams started a version of Debian Linux with additional kernel modules enabled (required to support AMD graphics drivers).
