PINEVILLE, N.C. – One person is fighting for their life in the hospital after being shot at a Pineville mall Sunday night.

The incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on Pineville-Matthews Road, near Kettering Drive.
The witness says the employee allegedly received help from a family member. The suspect allegedly ran to his car and grabbed a gun before going back into the store and shooting the worker. He also told Counts that the victim appeared to be doing well.

MEDIC says they took one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Veteran crime reporter Glenn Counts went to the scene and was able to speak off-camera with an employee who said he believed the suspect was trying to steal from Walmart when an employee got into a scuffle.
Linda Smith is a regular customer and also knows the victim's family; She told Counts her thoughts were with them.
“They are wonderful people; They are amazing; they will help you with everything; They’re just so good,” Smith said. “I had lost my wallet somewhere and came back the next day and they just moved out of the way.”
Officials with the Pineville Police Department say they have one person in custody, but have not confirmed whether or not an employee was a victim.
