10-year-old child brutally attacked by monkeys

A 10-year-old child did not survive an attack by a pack of particularly aggressive monkeys in a village in Salki, India.

Last Tuesday’s attack is the third in a week in the same village, a phenomenon that experts say is partly due to the consequences of deforestation.

The boy was playing with his friends near a temple when he was brutally attacked by a group of langurs, France Live reported, citing The Independent.

The victim was taken to hospital but did not survive serious injuries caused by the violent attack.

Local elected officials, in need of urgent action, told local media that two langurs had been captured and “put in cages to catch another.”

“There is a large troop of monkeys in the village, including four adults, who have been involved in attacks over the past week,” an elected official told Indian broadcaster NDTV.

Although langur attacks on humans are rare, the monkeys are forced to leave their natural habitat to feed, it said.

Last September, during the G20 summit in New Delhi, authorities used men dressed as monkeys and mock primates to deter the macaque troops.
