100 Day Mandate and a New Anti-Inflation Credit Announced by David Eby

About 85% of the population is expected to receive another affordability loan, a payment similar to the one sent in January. The money could start arriving in British Columbians’ bank accounts via the Canada Revenue Agency from April 5.

“This credit offers up to $164 per adult and $41 per child, up to $410 for a family with two children. »

— A quote from David Eby, Premier of British Columbia

The Prime Minister concedes this payment will not cover all bills but believes it will ease the pressure on families who need it most.

In a speech on Saturday, David Eby took stock of his first 100 days as provincial leader and his goals for the rest of his term. He assures that his government will continue to invest in health, housing and affordability.

“Over the next 18 months, my team and I will be working hard to improve your life and the lives of your families as much as you can […] in your lives and in your communities. »

A political scientist who teaches at Quest University in Squamish, Stewart Perst, expects Tuesday’s budget to detail the NDP government’s priorities for the 2024 provincial election. I think we’re going to get a pretty clear indication of how this government thinks it can make a difference over the next 18 months.

Stewart Perst believes the surplus taken by the province could be diverted into public housing, with NGOs trying to build rental housing, additional financial incentives for healthcare workers and mental health and addiction treatment centers.

According to him, it will be important for the government to be transparent about the distribution of the $5 billion already spent under the Eby government.
