11 hospitalized after Delta flight hits severe turbulence en route to Atlanta

A Delta plane encountered severe turbulence while approaching Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta on Tuesday and had to take eleven people to the hospital after landing.

The Airbus A350 that took off from Milan, Italy, landed safely shortly before 7 p.m. after hitting turbulence about 40 miles northeast of the airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said. According to the airline, the plane was carrying 151 passengers and 14 crew members.

The injured included both customers and crew members of Delta Flight 175. It was not immediately clear how many of each were hurt or how serious their injuries were.

It was the latest in a series of incidents this year in which people were injured when their flights hit severe turbulence.
