Mike Flanagan (“The Haunting of Hill House”) continues the horror with this free adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe short story. We are the heart of the family of a powerful pharmaceutical CEO who did everything to save his fortune. His practices are called into question as his children die one by one under unclear and cruel circumstances. As always, the director’s world is frightening.

Horror Story: Tricky

Ryan Murphy’s famous franchise always takes us into exciting and terrible worlds, but visually polished. Its distribution always attracts great attention. This season 12 is no exception with the presence of Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne, joining some stalwarts like Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd and Leslie Grossman. We follow an actress who, despite unsuccessful in vitro tests, is torn between her popularity and her desire for motherhood.

Black mirror

A sixth season of this anthology series was released a little earlier this year and it remains as frightening as ever. The episode “Demon 79” takes us back in time, but the themes discussed are still reflected today, with the rise of the right and the lack of tolerance towards immigration. In this racist and xenophobic time, a young saleswoman comes across a talisman that releases a demon that forces her to murder under the threat of the end of the world.

Season 2 came out last spring. The survivors of the first season (the young people of the past) have to face the winter and cold, which makes their conditions even more difficult and increases the tension. Hunger and a desire to survive push them to take unexpected measures. One scene is particularly exciting. Beware of cannibalism! In the present, the adult survivors are increasingly juggling their demons and the violence reaches new levels. A mystical wind floats. The tension is heated up on both sides.

The changeling

It’s a love story that turns paranormal and nightmarish. Apollo and Emma fall in love. When Emma returns from Brazil, where a strange encounter seems to have captivated her, they decide to get married and become parents. But Emma is plagued by insomnia, paranoia and postpartum problems. She then disappears, leading Apollo on a descent into hell in gloomy New York. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same name.

Among thrillers, this dramatic series has just arrived and focuses on the discovery of bodies with the same symbol. The peculiarity? His bodies are examined by four detectives in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053 over a period of almost 200 years. What connects these corpses over such a long period of time? Is it the same victim? A mysterious story adapted from a graphic novel.

On a lighter note, Zakiya Dalila Harris has created a TV series based on her book thanks to the help of Rashida Jones. We follow Nella, deputy editor of a publishing company where she is the only black employee. Every day she experiences microaggressions from both sides. When another black woman gets a job, she sees it as an ally. On the contrary, she subtly becomes her own worst enemy. This is where satire meets paranoia.

Haunted by her demons: the Christina Boyer affair

With this in mind, this true crime documentary miniseries tells the fate of Christina Boyer, nicknamed “Poltergeist Girl” in reference to Spielberg’s film, in three episodes. Abandoned at a young age, she claimed to have telekinetic and supernatural powers since her youth. When her three-year-old daughter was found dead, she was accused of murder and has been in prison ever since, claiming she is innocent.
