A schoolgirl who shot her father as part of a pre-planned assassination deal with her friend has died after shooting herself in the head.
The 12-year-old girl died on September 22, two days after shooting her 38-year-old father in the stomach at their home in Waterford, Texas.
He has since been discharged from hospital and is said to be making a full recovery, according to authorities.
Police confirmed the girl and her 12-year-old friend from Lufkin planned for weeks to kill their families and pets before heading to Georgia.
The Waterford girl ended up turning the gun on herself in the street after opening fire on her father.
She was discovered by officers with a handgun lying beneath her, with her cause of death believed to be suicide.
The second 12-year-old girl was taken into custody and charged with conspiracy to murder.

A spokesman for the Parker County Sheriff’s Office said, “The 12-year-old youth involved in the September 20, 2022 shooting incident in northwest Parker County succumbed to her injuries on September 22 at a local hospital.
“The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined the cause and manner of death as suicide by gunshot wound to the head.
‘Your father, who was the victim of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, was recently discharged from hospital and is expected to recover.
“The second 12-year-old Lufkin woman who sheriff’s investigators believe helped plan the shooting was taken into custody last week and charged with conspiracy to murder.”
Officials responded to reports of a shooting around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, about 30 miles west of Fort Worth.
Both father and daughter were flown to hospital, where the 12-year-old was pronounced dead two days later.

Why the girls wanted to kill their families and ran away remains unclear.
“It doesn’t matter if they live in a small town or a big city. Unfortunately, things like this can happen,” said Jessica Pebsworth, Lufkin’s director of communications.

Police officers said they are withholding the girls’ names because of their age, and are not releasing the wounded father’s name to protect the children.
