A 14-year-old boy died after falling off a New York City subway train. He attempted to climb onto the train’s roof, a dangerous tendency dubbed “subway surfing.”
The boy fell off a train in Queens, New York. He suffered a fatal head injury, The Mirror reported.
He was then taken to the hospital, where his death was pronounced.
His identity remains unknown. Authorities do not know if he was accompanied or alone.
This death is the seventh this year linked to this new trend popular on social networks, particularly on TikTok, where teenagers are having fun “subway surfing,” according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). or climbing on top of trains. .
Last week, another teenager, Brian Crespo, died while surfing the subway while another boy was seriously injured.
According to the MTA, in February 2023, 52 people used public transport while not boarding the train, and 58 cases were recorded in January 2023. Those are numbers that give New York Mayor Eric Adams goosebumps.
The latter has also asked the management of TikTok to remove from their platforms videos that promote this dangerous activity, which at the time of writing these lines have already achieved millions of views.
TikTok expressed its condolences and then stressed that these videos will be removed from the social network as soon as they are found.
