Millions of United States residents are on the verge of losing their public Medicaid health coverage as the protections established at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic are phased out. Under a bipartisan agreement that Congress reached in late 2022, states can start Medicaid recipients starting June 1. The states of Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, New Hampshire, and South Dakota have already had some residents kicked out of Medicaid. The Biden administration estimates that a total of 15 million people will lose benefits, including millions of children. Medicaid is a public program that provides health coverage to low-income people living in the United States.
