At around 8:30 a.m. that day, a 45-year-old driver is said to have attempted to force a picket line consisting of several teachers in front of the entrance to one of the parking lots of the Le Carrefour comprehensive school on Rue Saint-Antoine, who, according to our information, claimed to want to go to the Stade Pierre-Lafontaine arena, a building next to the school.
The strikers asked the woman to go through the other entrance to the arena, but she allegedly “performed a maneuver that caused fear for the safety of the protesters,” according to the Gatineau City Police Department (SPVG) called. after an emergency call to the crime scene.
No injuries
The driver was spotted by police at the scene and subsequently received a ticket worth $1,567. His reckless actions also resulted in four demerit points being added to his record.
No criminal charges will be filed in this matter.
Nobody was injured.
It is important to respect the picket lines, says the president of the Outaouais Education Union (SEO), Nathalie Gauthier, about the incident, which is still an isolated case.
“Morally, we do not cross the line, especially when there is another way (to the parking lot) to get where we want to go,” she specifies, recalling that it is the entrances to the schools that were closed during the strike , which began on Thursday, were blocked.
The Draveurs School Service Center (CSSD) declined to comment.
Remember that since November 21st, all courses in the facilities of three CSSs in the region (des Draveurs, Portages-de-l’Outaouais and Coeur-des-Vallées) have been suspended indefinitely.
The SEO reminded on Friday that the picket lines in front of the schools will be very narrow and that no one will be able to “enter or leave” the schools.
