One mother’s horror, Geneviève Déziel, has experienced it since her son Isaac Lajeunesse took his own life when he was just 19 years old. However, before the fateful night, the parents had been ringing alarm bells for quite some time, but unfortunately the threats were not taken seriously.

“In 2018 a psychiatrist told us to kick him in the back, he was lazy,” lamented Ms Déziel on Yasmine Abdelfadel’s mic over QUB radio.
It was not lightly that Isaac’s parents decided to take their son to a specialist. They felt it was wrong. They felt, without being able to name it, the evil that gnawed at the young man.
“Access to care is difficult and the cooperation of the nursing staff was not sufficient,” said the grieving mother.
Geneviève Déziel is furious with the system. A system that could have saved his child’s life.
For them, the “machine” has failed them.
On the one hand, since Isaac was an adult, his record was not passed on to his parents, who might have been able to provide better care themselves. On the other hand, cries for help from the parents were not heeded.
The mother gives a touching and moving testimony of what she thinks went wrong in a system that we can hope will one day succeed in saving all lives.
