Can you imagine being surprised by a huge snake hidden in the Christmas tree? This is what happened to a family from Queensburgh, South Africa last Thursday (December 22nd). The snake of the black mamba species is about 2 meters long and is considered one of the most venomous in the world. Luckily, no one in the family was hurt, but they were shocked when they saw the animal.

The snake was rescued by expert Nick Evans. He is known for promoting rescue and conservation work for amphibians and reptiles. Evans said that finding a snake hidden in the Christmas tree was one of the most unusual events of his career.

On Facebook, Nick Evans shared a little bit about the story. “Santa left me an early Christmas present, not at my house, but under someone else’s Christmas tree in Queensburgh,” joked the expert.

Evans said the snake was in the backyard of the family home, but after being disturbed by the gardener, the snake tried to find a quieter place to stay. “She walked away from him out of fear, saw the door open and hid inside. From there she climbed onto the Christmas tree,” he explained.
