The Journal reported yesterday that Jonathan Blanchet and his wife Catherine Lemaire have been waiting 20 months for their residence to be connected. Since December 31, they have been moving from one Airbnb to another because the rent on their apartment has expired.
Their promoter submitted the connection application on July 5, 2021. Power should arrive in the summer of 2022, according to Hydro-Québec. Deforestation and piling were carried out by Hydro Quebec subcontractors, but follow-up is yet to come.
Big relief
“That’s a great relief! said Jonathan Blanchet, who received the long-awaited call from Hydro-Québec yesterday. “We are planning our Airbnb rentals until April 1st, but that will be the end of it. “. According to him, it’s mostly a communication problem between the different people he’s dealt with at Hydro-Québec.
But the hydro technician who spoke to him yesterday “was very professional. Customer service has been great,” he adds.
Hydro Quebec is fighting back
In this case, a network expansion, Hydro-Québec proposes a route for the line and it is then the customer’s responsibility to obtain the necessary easements.
“This step is essential. Hydro-Québec cannot start any work without a permit,” specifies Hydro-Québec’s Caroline Des Rosiers.
“However, obtaining easements from the client took longer than expected, which partly explains the delays. Once the easements were achieved, work began. These are ongoing and complex. They will be completed in the next few weeks,” she says.
