Wednesday night’s schedule of six games between ACC and Big Ten teams marked the end of an annual interleague series dating back to 1999, and the ACC emerged victorious. With a 3-3 split on the final night of the three-night series, the league secured an 8-6 victory in the 2022 edition of the challenge. While No. 10 Indiana’s win over No. 18 North Carolina gave the Big Ten a marquee win, No. 17 Duke overcame No. 25 Ohio State 81-72 to help the ACC claim its first overall win at the challenge since 2017 gain
Five players reached double figures for the Blue Devils, who were leading by 16 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks ahead of freshman phenom Kyle Filipowski. Duke forced 16 turnovers in the matchup, limiting Ohio State to just 3 of 13 shots from 3-point range. The win marked a nice upswing for the Blue Devils, who lost to Purdue 75-56 in Sunday’s Phil Knight Legacy.
The ACC also pulled off a big win when Notre Dame defeated Michigan State’s No. 20 70-52 despite starting as a slight underdog at home. The Fighting Irish led 42-24 at halftime and were led with 23 points by Cormac Ryan, who put down 6 of 7 shots from 3-point range.
With the 8-6 win in the series, the ACC now holds a 13-8-3 all-time lead over the Big Ten in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. This marked the event’s final year as the ACC will begin a new intra-conference series with the SEC beginning next season.
