2022 Presidential results: Marine Le Pen broadly in lead in West Indies and Guyana

In the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday, April 24, Marine Le Pen prevailed in Guadeloupe, Martinique and Guyana – areas where La France candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon had achieved significant results in the first round . The Pacific put Emmanuel Macron in first place.

The candidate of the National Rally (RN) wins with 69.6% in Guadeloupe and 60.8% in Martinique, 60.7% in Guyana, 54.7% in Saint-Barthélemy and in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon (50 .6%) according to figures published by the Ministry of the Interior. Between 2022 and 2017, Marine Le Pen has thus gained more than 47 points in Martinique, 36 points in Guadeloupe and more than 25 points in Guyana.

The right-wing extremist candidate also prevailed in the areas of the Indian Ocean. In Mayotte, Marine Le Pen took first place with 59.1% of the votes in the first ballot, ahead of Jean-Luc Mélenchon (23.96%) with 42.67% of the votes. On La Réunion, the RN candidate received more than 59.5% of the votes. On this island, it was Jean-Luc Mélenchon who led the first lap (40.26%) ahead of Marine Le Pen (24.73%).

Macron at the top in the Pacific

Emmanuel Macron, on the other hand, leads in the Pacific regions, as in the first round, with 61% in New Caledonia, 51.8% in French Polynesia and 67.4% in Wallis and Futuna, according to the Interior Ministry. The Caledonian right was particularly grateful to the outgoing President for completing the referendum process that resulted in voters voting against the territory’s independence three times.
