Are you ready for the madness that will take place during the 2023 NCAA tournament? You are better. March Madness is about to kick off, with this week’s First Four games taking center stage on Tuesday and Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio. The NCAA tournament begins with 68 teams all competing to become the 2022-23 national champion. There will be a number of notable voices on the call to this year’s March Madness celebration, along with some new names in visible roles.
This NCAA tournament is the last for an icon in the TV coverage of the event. Leading play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz will step down from his role as a college basketball player after calling his 32nd Final Four. Nantz will stay with CBS to cover golf and the NFL, but he will hand over his role in college basketball to Ian Eagle, who will be the play-by-play voice of the Final Four beginning in 2024.
A few new names in prominent positions include longtime NBA coach and current TNT television analyst Stan Van Gundy, who will serve as game action analyst, and former Villanova coach Jay Wright, who will step in as studio analyst for the first time. Those who have watched CBS’ college basketball coverage during the regular season have already caught Wright in his new role, but this will be his first big dance in the studio since his 21-year run with the Wildcats, which yielded two national titles.
