Wednesday marks another busy day in the 2023 Major League Baseball postseason with three games on the schedule. Phillies-Braves, Twins-Astros and Diamondbacks-Dodgers are all in action, and both Houston and Arizona are just one win away from reaching the LCS round. Meanwhile, the Twins and Dodgers are fighting to keep their seasons alive. The next team to advance to the playoffs will join the Rangers in baseball’s Final Four.
Texas finished with a win over the Orioles on Tuesday night and advanced to the ALCS for the first time since 2011. The Rangers are off until Sunday and will face either the Astros or Twins. Houston took a 2-1 lead in this ALDS matchup with a win in Game 3 on Tuesday. With another win over Minnesota, the Astros can advance to the ALCS for the seventh consecutive year.
On the NL side of the playoffs, the Braves and Phillies are tied 1-1 in the best-of-five series and the NLDS moves to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Wednesday. Atlanta pulled out a dramatic win in Game 2 on Monday after coming from behind to avoid going 0-2. The Dodgers weren’t so lucky. The No. 2 seed in the NL has its back against the wall against the Diamondbacks and LA needs three straight wins to avoid an NLDS exit for the second straight postseason.
Seven teams remain in the playoff round as the Marlins, Brewers, Blue Jays and Rays were all eliminated from the playoffs in the wild card round.
The ALDS and NLDS are best-of-five series and the round could last until Saturday, October 14th. The 2023 MLB playoffs run through at least October 31st, and a World Series Game 7 would take place on Saturday, November 14th. 4.
