The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs hosts the rising Detroit Lions in Game 1 of the 2023 NFL season and then hosts the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch in Week 11 of Monday Night Football.
The Chiefs will take on the Lions in Week 1 on a Thursday night edition of “Sunday Night Football” on Sept. 7 on NBC announced. The NFL made the announcement later Thursday The Chiefs will host the Eagles on November 20th.
Kansas City will also host the Las Vegas Raiders for a Christmas game at 1:00 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon and CBS. It will be the second game of the regular season on Nickelodeon, following last year’s Christmas game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Denver Broncos.
The Rams won that game against the Broncos, which cost Denver coach Nathaniel Hackett his job.

Five Chiefs games were announced prior to the release of the schedule. Kansas City plays the Miami Dolphins on November 5 in Frankfurt, Germany and hosts the Cincinnati Bengals on New Year’s Eve. As the defending Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs will also host Thursday night’s season opener.
Not long after the Christmas game was announced, the NFL and New York Jets announced that Aaron Rodgers’ The first game with the Jets would be on Monday Night Football. The Jets will play the Buffalo Bills at home in Week 1.
The NFL is releasing certain games ahead of the scheduled release of the full game schedule Thursday night. The announcement of the Nickelodeon game came a day after the announcement of the five international games and the Eagles’ Week 13 game against the 49ers.
