The 2023 World Baseball Classic is underway and teams are competing for the international title. Team USA suffered their first loss of the competition on Sunday night with a lopsided defeat by Mexico. The Americans will now meet Canada in a decisive duel on Monday. Venezuela, meanwhile, are off to a great start in Pool D, defeating two tournament favorites, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, in their opening games.
Four teams have secured their tickets for the Quarterfinals: Japan, Cuba, Italy and Australia. The quarter-finals begin on Wednesday with Cuba versus Australia.
The field of 20 teams is narrowed down to eight after the group match, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the quarter-finals. It’s a single-elimination bracket-style tournament from then on, with the championship game scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 in Miami.
