Why the Rangers have home field advantage in the World Series

Home field advantage in the World Series is determined by who had the best record in the regular season. Home advantage is harder to determine this year than most years, as two of the three remaining teams finished 90-72 in the regular season. The Rangers and Phillies had 90 wins, while the Diamondbacks went 84-78 in the regular season. If teams have the same record, the direct tiebreaker comes into play.

So yes, the Rangers, the No. 5 seed in the American League and a team that has never had home-field advantage in any round of the postseason, will have home-field advantage in the World Series. The Rangers lost the AL West and home-field advantage in the ALCS to the Astros by losing the season series to their in-state rivals 9-4. However, Texas defeated the Phillies in a three-game series that began on Opening Day (March 30), and this could be the reason the Rangers host Game 1 of the World Series.
