The recently introduced Mazda CX-90 2024 is the new flagship of the Japanese brand. The mid-size SUV will be the first Mazda product to feature new technologies, including two e-Skyactiv engines and an all-new platform.
Here are five things you should know about it.
A majestic aesthetic
The designers have opted for a stylistic approach that they call majestic, which is explained by a long wheelbase, flared fenders that emphasize the vehicle’s stance, but also by sophisticated curves on the bodywork to give “fluidity” to the lines to lend.
We also recognize Mazda’s signature huge trapezoidal grille where the top ends meet the headlights. Chrome accents in the lower part of the bumper are optional.
To top it off, the CX-90 will sport new 21-inch wheels with a gloss black finish and a new color in its catalog featuring Takuminuri paint technology: Craftsman Red.

New platform
The CX-90 sits on a new architecture that changes the placement of the engine. Mounted lengthwise, Mazda says this configuration makes driving more engaging.
In addition, the manufacturer has paid particular attention to the rigidity of the body, but also to the design of the seats and the calibration of the suspension to achieve greater balance, control and confidence on the road.
Otherwise, the all-wheel drive i-ACTIV and the new eight-speed gearbox are standard on all models.
Two new engines
In the first case, a turbocharged 3.3-liter six-cylinder will find its place under the hood. With M-Hybrid Boost mild hybridization, it delivers 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque (on premium petrol).
The second uses rechargeable hybrid technology. With that in mind, the 2.5-litre four-cylinder is paired with a 17.8kWh battery. At the moment Mazda has not announced maximum autonomy in 100% electric mode.
Note that our journalist Antoine Joubert was able to travel 56 kilometers using only electrons on board a hybrid CX-60, a smaller model reserved for the European market. On the performance side, the CX-90 engine develops 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. All builds can tow up to 5,000 lbs.

A neat cabin
Mazda follows up and shows on board the CX-90 where the impression of luxury is felt thanks to the richness of materials – such as the arrangement of nappa leather, wood and tone-on-tone fabrics – and chrome trim.
The fabric found on the dashboard, on the other hand, is sewn with hanging stitches. This stylistic approach is inspired by bookbinding methods and a Japanese weaving technique called kumihimo.
Otherwise, the utility can accommodate up to eight passengers, the multimedia system integrates a 12.3-inch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come automatically.

Lots of security features
In terms of safety, Mazda offers I-Activesense safety technologies as standard. These include in particular the automatic emergency braking, the blind spot assistant and the adaptive cruise control equipped with radar sensors.
At this time, pricing for the 2024 Mazda CX-90 has yet to be announced. Further details will be announced shortly before the start date.
