• With the new Spyder RS variant, Porsche will offer the most powerful Boxster in history.

• The 4.0 liter 6-cylinder engine that is used enables a time of around 3.2 seconds from 0 to 97 km/h.

• The 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS starts at US$188,800 in Canada.

When it comes to creating unique and highly desirable automobiles, you can count on Porsche. The German company has just provided further good proof of this with the 718 Spyder RS, a car that we have to call the ultimate Boxster.

The RS treatment is nothing new to Porsche, as we’ve seen on the 718 Cayman GT4. He’s now on loan to the Boxster. It includes the 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, a block that offers 493 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque on this model. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This enables acceleration from 0 to 97 km/h in 3.2 seconds.

Aesthetically, enthusiasts will recognize the Caymant GT4 RS’s nose, which allows more air to enter the cooling devices without compromising aerodynamics too much. The lower part is made of carbon fiber and the fins at the ends of the front bumper provide additional downforce. Instead of the distinctive rear spoiler of the GT4 RS, the Spyder variant is equipped with a spoiler in the shape of a duck tail.

The top is in two pieces and is 16 pounds lighter than the top on the regular variant.

The Active Suspension System (PASM) from Porsche is also part of the model’s standard equipment, as is the mechanical torque vectoring limited-slip differential on the rear axle. The chassis components of the Cayman GT4 were also reused. Porsche states that driving this Spyder version will be a little more comfort-oriented than the Cayman GT4, in line with the experience we generally aim for in a cabriolet.

On board, the approach remains minimalist. The carbon fiber bucket seats are designed to offer maximum lateral support while still remaining highly adjustable to find a good riding position.

Overall, this Spyder RS livery is 59 pounds lighter, but if you want to reduce the weight even more (numbers follow), the Weissach package is an option. The hood, the side air intakes and the Gurney flap of the rear spoiler are finished with carbon fiber. This group can also be supplemented with forged magnesium rims.

The 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS will be unveiled as part of the celebrations organized by Porsche in June in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen to mark the 75th anniversary of the brand’s sports cars, followed by the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which will take place in England from July 13th until 16

It will be available in Canada in spring 2024 at a price of US$188,800.
