2024, the year of cleaning up iPads – iGeneration

There was no new iPad in 2023, there would be a big cleanup in 2024. The broad outlines of the coming changes are well known, but Bloomberg covers them with a pinch of detail.

The main change will be the addition of a large 12.9-inch iPad Air, joining the existing 10.9-inch model. Apple would thus replicate what it already does for its laptops, with two sizes for the Pro models and two, similarly, also for the MacBook Air.

The future 12.9-inch iPad Air will use the Magic Keyboard of the current large iPad Pro.

The two iPad Airs would abandon their M1 processor to restore the M2 in the iPad Pros today and these would move to M3, they would have an 11-inch OLED screen for the first and 13 inches for the second, as well as an upgrade receive their design.

The two Air and Pro series are quite close to each other in terms of the diagonals of their screens, but the similarity ends there. Apple also wants to highlight the difference between the two families when it comes to accessories. The iPad Air XL would use the same Magic Keyboard as today, while the iPad Pros would be offered a new model that would give the tablet a more distinct laptop look.

Gurman: an abandoned 14-inch iPad and a more metallic Magic Keyboard

In his Sunday newsletter, Mark Gurman predicts the disappearance of the iPad 9, the only model that simultaneously retains the original design with the Touch ID button on the front and the Pencil 1. Gurman had previously spoken of a real new generation for the Pencil. While the Mini will remain in the catalog for the future 7th generation with a more powerful processor (today it has an A15).
