A 20yearold woman who suffered from a severe milk allergy died a few days after eating tiramisù that was advertised as “vegan.” The case was registered in Milan, Italy, in January last year and remains under investigation.
Anna Bellisario was out for dinner at a vegan burger chain with her boyfriend when she ate a dish called “Tiramisun Mascherpa.”
The young woman read the dessert ingredients label before eating it. After eating a few spoonfuls, she started coughing and had difficulty breathing.
She took asthma and cortisone medication but lost consciousness after anaphylactic shock. Anna was in a coma for 10 days and died on February 5th.
The owners of the bakery that supplied the tiramisu are being investigated for manslaughter. Traces of milk and milk protein were found in the dessert.
