21 years in prison for trying to kill his doppelganger with a poisoned cheesecake

A Russian woman was sentenced to 21 years in prison in New York on Wednesday for trying to kill her American look-alike with a poisoned cheesecake before stealing her identity, the American justice system said.

Viktoria Nasyrova, 47, was convicted of attempted murder by a New York jury in February. His 21-year sentence was handed down on Wednesday, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.

In August 2016, the defendant went to her 35-year-old victim’s home and offered her a cheesecake.

At the time, the two women looked very similar, speaking Russian, sharing the same skin color, brown hair, and many other physical characteristics.

After eating the cake, the thirtysomething had become unwell and lost consciousness.

The next day, a friend of hers found her unconscious. Pills were scattered around her to make it look like a suicide attempt, according to Queens prosecutors.

When the victim returned home after a stay in hospital, she found her passport and work permit, along with jewelry and valuables, missing.

Analysis of the cheesecake revealed that prosecutors said it contained phenazepam, a very powerful sedative.

Viktoria Nasyrova, who lived in Brooklyn, was also convicted of assault, compulsive confinement and theft.
