22-year-old Walmart employee saves life of man in cardiac arrest

A 77-year-old man collapsed in an aisle at the Walmart in Drummondville on January 25. Fortunately, this young woman of 22, Jade Fournier-Blouin, was able to help him.

In an interview with the online newspaper Vingt55, Ms Fournier-Blouin explains that she heard a code on the intercom that indicated a medical emergency and did not hesitate to act quickly.

The 22-year-old worker says she received CPR training but didn’t expect to use it anytime soon, let alone save a man’s life.

She says the man fell to the ground after telling his sister, who was with him at Walmart, that he was unwell. Ms Fournier-Blouin reports that when she arrived at the driveway to help the distraught man, his breathing was inefficient and he had a blank stare.

Without hesitation, the young employee went to equip herself with the Automated External Defibrillator DEA. Without really knowing how to proceed, Ms. Fournier-Blouin switched on the device and gave the distressed man an initial shock.

By listening to the audio instructions and remembering her training, she was able to revive the man devastated by a heart attack.

Ms Fournier-Blouin continued to stimulate the man to keep him conscious until paramedics arrived.

Through each of these steps, Ms Fournier-Blouin was able to save the 77-year-old’s life.

The FIMUQ wanted to highlight her gesture and her initiative by inviting Jade Fournier-Blouin to her offices to present her with a commemorative plaque highlighting her first revival.
