It was the first Les Olivier “return to normal” gala since the pandemic hit. In addition to excellent animation by Katherine Levac and some hilarious presentation numbers, the evening also served to crown Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais. For the second year in a row, the 28-year-old comedian is the one who received the most statuettes at this great celebration of love. Notably, PYRD won the two most coveted trophies of the night: Olivier of the Year and Comedy Show of the Year. Here are five moments we captured from this 24th edition.

Arrows by Katherine Levac

In prime shape for the gala’s animation, Katherine Levac didn’t hesitate to send a few darts in her opening monologue. “I’m a French Canadian woman from the LGBTQ community. Imagine if I was still fat they would freak out! »
The comedian ended his act by spreading love. “I’m so honest. For example, I watched Christian Bégin’s show. I loved. What is he trying? Leave him in peace. »
The Coronation of Roy-Desmarais

He was the gala’s most-nominated comedian for the second year in a row. And once again, Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais won almost everything. Including the Industry Gala, PYRD and its staff won four trophies on Sunday: Writer, Director, Show and Olivier of the Year.
Roy-Desmarais also saw two of the projects he was involved in (Club Soly and Complètement Lycée) leave with Oliviers on Sunday.
Very moved after receiving the Olivier for Show of the Year against Sam Breton, Mathieu Dufour, Christine Morency, Arnaud Soly and Pierre-Yves cried while he thanked the microphone. “It’s the most beautiful adventure that happened to me in my life, this show. »
The “Discovery” by Matthieu Pepper

At every gala, the Discovery of the Year trophy raises our eyebrows as some of the comedians featured have long careers behind them. This year was no exception with the five finalists Matthieu Pepper, Richardson Zéphir, Pascal Cameron, Michelle Desrochers and Jean-Michel Martel. Three of them were nominated in the same category last year!
Finally, first in this heated battle was Matthieu Pepper, who approached the general public with his series Entre deux Sheets.
A little balm for Korine Côté

Korine Côté certainly had a strange evening on Sunday. At 6:30 p.m., the comedian was eliminated from the show Big Brother Celebrities. And a few hours later she won the Olivier for number of the year. His two co-authors, Gabrielle Caron and Justine Philie, collected the award in his absence. “Korine isn’t here tonight because she hasn’t been on Big Brother in four minutes and she has a family,” Justine said to screams of surprise.
Post-pandemic mood

After two rather sad “pandemic galas” moderated by François Bellefeuille, the Les Olivier Gala found its audience for the first time since December 2019.
And that return to normal has served this evening very well, which is not the same in a half-empty room with aloof viewers.
The comedians who make up the majority of Olivier’s audience are known to be difficult to please during this gala. But on Sunday, they responded warmly to the presentation numbers.
TWO QUOTATIONS NOTED
