27 Dominican provinces on alert for rain and wind

Santo Domingo, May 20 (Prensa Latina) 27 of the 32 Dominican provinces remain on alert today as a low pressure system continues that has been sweeping across the national territory since Friday afternoon with heavy rain and gusty winds.

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) said the low is favoring cloud formation over the Caribbean coast with moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.

This organization warned that this afternoon night, rainfall will increase over a large part of the national territory, accompanied by occasional hailstorms in the north-west, north, north-east, low mountain ranges and border areas.

The provinces receiving warnings about possible river, stream and ravine flooding, as well as urban and rural flooding, are Monseñor Nouel, Valverde, San José de Ocoa, Duarte, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, La Vega, Elías Piña, Sánchez Ramírez and María Trinidad Sanchez.

The weather warning has been issued in Azua, Monte Plata, Hermanas Mirabal, Espaillat, El Seibo, Dajabón, Hato Mayor, San Juan Puerto Plata, Samaná, Greater Santo Domingo (including the National District) and San Pedro de Macorís.

A fairly similar situation is expected for tomorrow Sunday as the low point north of the Caribbean island will be joined by a low pressure area that will produce clouds with heavy rain, electric shocks, gusts of wind and possible hailstorms.
