Shakur was initially seriously injured in the September 7, 1996 shooting, but died in a hospital six days later at age 25. According to media reports, the now-arrested Davis admitted in interviews and in his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” that he was sitting in the Cadillac from where the shots were fired.
As the celebrity portal TMZ reported, the now 60-year-old is Orlando Anderson’s uncle. According to TMZ, the nephew of the now detained man, murdered in 1998, is “suspected, at least on the street, of having been the shooter”. Davis has also alleged over the years that Anderson was the alleged perpetrator of the crime, as music portal Vibe noted. Both were allegedly members of a notorious American gang, the South Side Compton Crips.
According to new investigation findings, Davis, now charged in the murder case, is charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon. In a book published in 2019, Davis claims that the shots were fired from the back seat – but he was sitting in the passenger seat.
Evidence seized during operation
The antecedents of the crime are still unclear today. The investigation suddenly gained momentum in July after police searched a Las Vegas home, which drew suspicion to Davis. Police were looking for items “linked to the murder of Tupac Shakur,” the AP news agency reported.
In addition to several .40 caliber bullets, computers, a cell phone and a hard drive, as well as a copy of “Vibe” magazine with an article about Shakur, several photos and a copy of Davis’ 2019 memoir “Compton Street Legend ” were seized.

75 million records sold
Shakur was one of the most successful rap artists of the 1990s. The musician, actor and activist has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and in June received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Shakur was one of the key figures in the industry-fueled competition between rappers from the US East and West Coasts. Although he was born in New York, he moved to California with his family as a teenager. There he became one of the most famous figures on the West Coast scene.
Just six months after Shakur’s death, his East Coast rival, Christopher “The Notorious BIG” Wallace, was shot and killed. Many therefore believe that both musicians were murdered as part of a rivalry between their record companies in Los Angeles and New York. However, music historians emphasize that the rivalry was stimulated for commercial reasons.
