Las Vegas police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of hip-hop star Tupac Shakur. The rapper was shot dead in a passing car about 27 years ago. Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested this morning; According to US media, nothing is known about the exact accusations. An indictment is expected later today.
Shakur was initially seriously injured in the September 7, 1996 shooting, but died in a hospital six days later at age 25. According to media reports, the now-arrested Davis admitted in interviews and in his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” that he was sitting in the Cadillac from where the shots were fired.

Evidence seized during operation
According to reports, there was a search of Davis’ wife’s home two months ago. Police were looking for items “linked to the murder of Tupac Shakur,” the AP news agency reported. In addition to several computers, a cell phone and a hard drive, also seized were a copy of “Vibe” magazine with an article about Shakur, two “photo banks” and a copy of Davis’ 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend”.
Shakur was one of the most successful rap artists of the 1990s. The musician, actor and activist has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and in June received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His death was previously considered unexplained. The crime was reportedly preceded by clashes between rival rappers from the east and west coasts.
