It was the Montreal City Police Service’s (SPVM) Major Crimes Unit that conducted the investigation and arrested suspect Jesse John Brandon Moore. The 29-year-old man is believed to have been involved in the murder, which occurred on September 4 near the entrance to the Place-des-Arts metro station.
The suspected killer appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Wednesday. He is charged with second-degree murder.
On September 4, around 10 a.m., a homeless man in his 40s was found covered in blood behind the entrance to the Place-des-Arts metro station near the intersection of Jeanne-Mance and De Maisonneuve Boulevard West.
Initial reports said he was stabbed. This was the 28th murder on the island of Montreal in 2023.
The SPVM had also deployed a command post in connection with this murder. Citizens in the downtown area where the tragedy occurred provided police with information to advance the investigation, authorities say.
