29 of 31 premature babies evacuated from al-Khifa in Gaza have arrived in Egypt

Twenty-nine premature babies who were still in Gaza’s al-Chifa hospital after the evacuation on Saturday arrived in Egypt on Monday through the Rafah border crossing, the only entry into the world of the Palestinian territory that is not in Israel’s hands. This was reported by the Egyptian state media Al-Qahera News.

The infants were evacuated on Sunday from the facility, which the World Health Organization (WHO) had described as a “death zone”. The Israeli army launched a raid on al-Khifa on Wednesday, claiming there was a Hamas base there, something the Palestinian Islamist movement denies.

A total of 31 premature babies had been evacuated from the hospital, but it could not immediately be explained why only 29 had arrived in Egypt.
