Netflix has added a cult film from the 1990s back to its catalog. Even 33 years after its release, the magic still works as it has climbed into the top 10 most watched films in France on the platform.

“Pretty Woman” was released in 1990 and was a huge success. With more than 4 million admissions in France, worldwide box office receipts were over $463 million. In Pretty Woman, Richard Gere and Julia Roberts play the roles of Edward Lewis and Vivian Ward, a businessman and a prostitute. A love story that is back on Netflix and is still a hit, as the film climbed to number four on the streaming platform's top 10 in France in midweek. This is not Julia Roberts' only success on Netflix, as “The World After Us” takes third place in the ranking.

“Pretty Woman” was originally intended to be a tragedy. The first scenario was originally titled $3000, referring to the amount Edward gives Vivian to spend the week with her. Instead of a beautiful love story, the prostitute had to overdose after the rich businessman decided to leave her on the sidewalk where they met. And if this scenario never saw the light of day, it's because Disney took over the project and didn't want such a dramatic ending.

It was thanks to Pretty Woman that Julia Roberts' career exploded. On the film set she even became friends with Richard Gere, who was already a fixture in the world of American cinema.
