A total of six cases were identified. The information was confirmed to TVA Nouvelles by the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’île-de-Montréal on Wednesday.

The Montreal Regional Health Department confirms it detected this outbreak on August 29.

The outbreak started at the Floralies de Lachine and appears to have spread to a second RPA, the Floralies de LaSalle.

At the moment, the DRSP is closely monitoring the situation and an epidemiological investigation is currently underway.

Interventions to combat the outbreak are being carried out by the RPA in collaboration with CIUSSS and DRSP.

An update will be given as the situation evolves.

Group A Streptococci cause invasive infections that can be serious and even fatal when they contaminate the blood, bones, and deep muscles, leading to pneumonia and meningitis.
