Relations between Russia and the European Union (EU) have been very difficult since the start of the war in Ukraine almost 6 weeks ago. Recently, Russian diplomats have been expelled from many EU countries.
Departure from Austria
Now Austria has also decided to expel 4 Russian diplomats. The most important job of diplomats is to represent their country in another country. A diplomat is an intermediary between countries. Diplomats work in so-called embassies.
Affected Russian diplomats will have their permission revoked to continue their service after April 12. By then they must have left Austria. It could be that they didn’t follow certain basic diplomatic rules.
There are still just over 280 Russian diplomats, ambassadors and other diplomatic officials in Austria.
