Police in New York City are searching for a gunman after a 48-year-old man was shot dead on the Manhattan subway on Sunday morning.

The man was on a northbound Q train that was pulling into the Canal Street station around 11:42 a.m. when the gunman began firing, hitting the victim in the chest, the NYPD said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.

The suspect fled the area and no arrests were made, the NYPD said. No one else was injured in the shooting.

Northbound Q and N trains are running with delays due to the NYPD investigation on Canal Street.
