The San Francisco 49ers are expected to replace quarterback Jimmy Garopolo at some point in the near future. Before that, QB will go under the knife.
Jimmy G will have surgery to repair a torn capsule in his throwing arm next week, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport Insider reported.
Shoulder rehabilitation will prevent Garopolo from throwing for 16 weeks, meaning he will miss OTAs and minicamp, but the 49ers’ QB should be able to throw by the end of June in the belief that he will be ready for the season , according to Rapoport.
The latest decline will now require not only accurate medical information to materialize the deal, but also a leap of faith from an interested suitor, Rapoport added.
Garopolo, who suffered a wild card injury over the Cowboys, said during the Niners’ post-season run that he could feel the injury when he tried to throw in his last two playoff games. QB also dealt with an injury to his right thumb that did not require surgery.
Garopolo is set to receive a base salary of $ 24.2 million this season, none of which is guaranteed. After the Niners drafted Trey Lance last year, San Francisco plans to hand over the reins to the young caller in 2022 and transfer Garopolo to one of several NFL clubs looking for a QB veteran.
While shoulder surgery may not affect Jimmy G’s availability for the start of the season, it is likely to affect its commercial value. This is the latest indicator of the injury problems that QB has dealt with during his stay in San Francisco – he has missed 25 games from the regular season in the last four seasons.
