Jobs, Joshua Michael Stern, 2013
The film tells the story of Steve Jobs (played by Ashton Kutcher) from when he was still a student. In fact, Steve Jobs stands out for his creativity and visionary side with which he wants to change the world through technology.
He met Steve Wozniak (played by Josh Gad in Jobs), with whom he founded the start-up Apple and both of them developed further Apple’s first computer: the Apple 1 and then in 2008 the first smartphone: the iPhone.
This film is interesting for entrepreneurship because it shows the difficulties, the way he overcomes them, but also the successes of an entrepreneur recognized by everyone.
The Social Network, Danny Boyle, 2010
Mark Zuckerberg (played by Jesse Eisenberg), a young Harvard student, geek and dumped by his girlfriend, creates FaceMash, a website where students vote for the most beautiful student.
But the servers “crashed” because there were too many connections. So the Winklevoss brothers turned to Mark Zuckerberg to improve Harvardconnection, which he took up the idea himself and then founded Facebook.
This film is a must-see because it shows the life of an entrepreneur at the beginning, with limited resources and a series of obstacles (especially in the legal area). Furthermore, this film allows us to ask questions on the ethics and consequences of social networks, especially with regard to private life.
The Strategist, Bennett Miller, 2011
This film is based on the 2003 book “Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game” by Michael Lewis. Beane (played by Brad Pitt) and assistant general manager Peter Brand (played by Jonah Hill) are working on a tight budget to fight for players, which pushes them to build a team of players with undervalued talents thanks to a statistics-based method (sabermetric approach).
This team won 20 games in a row, but lost to the Minnesota Twins in the American League Finals. The moral of this film: To be successful you don’t need colossal resources, but you do need a good dose of ingenuity. Innovation and conviction to believe in your ideas.
“The Founder,” John Lee Hancock, 2016
This film traces the story of Ray Kroc (played by Michael Keaton), a milkshake salesman who founded the McDonald’s empire in the 1950s. In fact, Ray Kroc discovers a burger restaurant run by the McDonald brothers and offers them to operate their restaurant as a franchisewhich allowed the business to flourish.
However, tensions arise between the McDonald brothers and Ray Kroc. The latter thus takes complete control of the company and turns it into the multinational company we all know.
This film takes us behind the scenes of an iconic company and shows us the opportunities, challenges and sacrifices of entrepreneurship. Above all, it raises important questions, such as business ethics or the price of fame.
Joy, David O. Russell, 2015
Joy Mangano (played by Jennifer Lawrence) is a single mother who has an innovative idea: inventing a self-cleaning steam mop. So, with her persistence and innovative spirit, she starts an entrepreneurial adventure in which we immerse ourselves in her Ups, downs and everyday decisions.
This biopic is fascinating and reminds us of the extent to which persistence, creativity and adaptability are just as necessary qualities in entrepreneurship as skill Face the gaze of others, including those close to you.
Each of the five featured films depicts the journeys of various well-known and recognized entrepreneurs, played by talented actors and actresses. The moral of these films: “Never give up,” as Barack Obama said.
