5 soldiers killed in California plane crash

Five Mairines died when the military plane they were aboard crashed in southern California, a spokesman for their squadron said Thursday.

The accident happened the day before near Glamis, 35 km from the Mexico border, and involved an MV-22B Osprey aircraft participating in a training mission, the San Diego-based 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing said in his press release.

The squadron has officially denied “rumours” that radioactive substances were on board the aircraft.

The US Army has seen several accidents involving this Osprey vertical take-off aircraft, including one that killed four people in Norway last March during a NATO exercise.
