For the first time, Brazil hosted the awards ceremony The 50 Best Restaurants in Latin Americathe regional version of the “Oscars” of world gastronomy The 50 best restaurants in the world. The party occupied the Copacabana Palace this Tuesday (November 28th) and listed the best addresses in Latin America.
The big winner was the Peruvian Maido, by Chef Mitsuharu “Micha” Tsumura. Followed by El Chato in Bogotá and Don Julio in Buenos Aires. In 2023, the list selected seven Brazilian restaurants from 50th to first place.
Casa do Porco from São Paulo took 4th place. Lasai from Rio de Janeiro by chef Rafa Costa e Silva took 14th place. Metzi from São Paulo took 18th place (up nine places). Oteque in Rio de Janeiro by chef Alberto Landgraf won 20th place, while Nelita from São Paulo took 21st place. Evvai from São Paulo placed 22nd and Maní from São Paulo placed 34th.
At the opening of the event, Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, announced that the next edition will again take place in the capital, Rio de Janeiro. There was also a tribute to chef Daniel Redondo, one of the founders of the Maní restaurant in São Paulo, and to chef Helena Rizzo. The chef was the victim of a traffic accident in Spain.
The ceremony was led by Danni Camilo, who named Janaína Torres Rueda (A Casa do Porco) the best female chef in Latin America. “Long live Brazil,” he cheered.
