50 million bullets amid US aid to Ukraine

The United States has shipped over 50 million bullets — not just larger Stinger and Javelin missiles — while providing lethal aid to Ukraine in its war with Russia, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: As members of Congress question the speed of the Pentagon’s support for Ukraine’s war effort, the Department of Defense sent a fact sheet to Capitol Hill detailing not only what it did — but how quickly.

Between the lines: The Biden administration has provided $2.4 billion in security aid to Ukraine since taking office, according to the document distributed on Thursday.

That includes $1.7 billion since Russia’s February 24 invasion.

The balance:

  • Over 1,400 Stinger anti-aircraft systems.
  • Over 5,000 Javelin armor systems.
  • Over 7,000 other anti-tank systems.
  • “Hundreds” of Switchblade Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems.
  • Over 7,000 small arms.
  • Over 50 million rounds of ammunition reportedly highly coveted by the Ukrainian Army for their close Russian encounters.
  • 45,000 sets of body armor and helmets.
  • Laser-guided missile systems.
  • Puma unmanned aerial systems.
  • Four radars to counter artillery and unmanned aerial systems.
  • Four counter-mortar radar systems.
  • Armored multipurpose wheeled vehicles with high mobility.
  • Night vision devices, thermal imaging systems and optics.
  • Tactical secure communications systems.
  • Commercial Satellite Imagery Services.
  • Protective equipment for explosive ordnance disposal.
  • Medical supplies including first aid kits.

What you say: “The government is working around the clock to meet Ukraine’s priority security needs, deliver weapons from US inventories when they are available, and facilitate the delivery of weapons by allies and partners when their systems meet Ukraine’s needs.” better correspond,” says the leaflet.

  • “All anti-tank and anti-aircraft systems from the two security assistance packages approved by the President in March have been delivered.”
