6 year old child shoots teacher police give details

After the incident, police provided new details about the crime, which is unusual in the United States, which is plagued by rampant gun violence.

A six-year-old child who fatally wounded a teacher in the United States is said to have fired the gun during a first-grade class. Newport News Township Police Chief Steve Drew gave that detail at a news conference on Monday. There’s also a fix: there was no fight over the gun before the shot, Drew said. The boy pointed the gun at the teacher and shot her. The students were not injured.

The shooting was not an accident.

“What we know now is that she (the teacher) was teaching. He (the boy) pulled a gun, pointed it (at the teacher) and fired,” Drew said. He originally said there was a scuffle before the shot was fired. He wanted to fix that, Drew said, and now spoke of an “interaction” between the boy and his 25-year-old teacher. However, he maintained that the shooting “wasn’t an accident”, as he had already explained after the crime on Friday, without detailing the matter. “It was intentional,” he said. The teacher, whose health condition has since stabilized, was still admitted to a hospital in the region on Monday.

The boy’s mother legally acquired the weapon, a pistol, and kept it at home. The child put them in his backpack and took them to school. The teacher described Drew as a hero. He spoke to her. Most of all, she cared about her students and made sure they were safe while they were still injured.

Boy is in a medical center

She assumed a defensive posture when she was shot, the police chief said. The shot went through her hand in the chest area. After the shooting, the boy was held by a school employee. The boy hit that person. The six-year-old was taken away in a police car. He was in a medical facility. The mother was questioned by the police. Initially, it was unclear whether she should be held accountable.

Principal Briana Foster Newton said Richneck Elementary School in Newport News will remain closed through the week. The act shocked the community, known for its shipyard, which builds aircraft carriers and other ships for the US Navy. Even for the United States, with its rampant gun violence, it seemed extraordinary.
