According to AVEQ, there are currently 170,592 electric vehicles on the roads in Quebec – and this number will increase exponentially in the coming years.
Given the public’s enthusiasm for electrification of transportation, the sixth edition of the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show will be held on April 21-23 at the Olympic Stadium.
Various electrical products will be presented, such as vehicles (cars, vans and SUVs), of course, but also bicycles, motorcycles and scooters, personal watercraft, snowmobiles, scooters, skateboards, scooters and accessories and parts. Even driving tests on site are possible!
The fair will also have stands from insurance companies, banks, finance companies, electrical terminals and installers, government services and various associations and groups.
Are you wondering whether electric mobility is something for you?
Here are some of the many benefits of electrifying transportation:
1. Lower running costs
With gas prices rising, switching to efficient engines that don’t require fuel and use less energy than internal combustion vehicles can save your monthly budget significantly. An electric car that travels 20,000km costs around $400 a year, while a gas-powered car can average between $2,500 and $3,000 a year in gasoline.
2. Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and use of fossil fuels
In Quebec, transport is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 44% of the province’s total emissions. Because electric motors are more efficient than internal combustion engines and produce fewer pollutants, they can help reduce the province’s greenhouse gas pollution.
In addition, gasoline and diesel vehicles waste 100 times more raw materials than electric vehicles. Because fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, oil) are among the largest sources of pollution in Canada, electric vehicles are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the country.
3. Safer
Since electric vehicles do not require flammable fuels, the risk of fire or explosion is reduced. It is also impossible for them to become a victim of a fuel leak.
The stats prove it: almost no fires in an electric vehicle have been reported to Transport Canada since 2017.
4. Less noise on the horizon
Because their engine consists of far fewer parts than petrol or diesel vehicles, electric transport is quieter. So we expect a less noisy city!
5. Shopping Discounts
The government of Quebec is offering a rebate on the purchase or lease of an electric vehicle that can go up to $7,000, and the government of Canada is also offering a $5,000 rebate on a new vehicle for a total of $12,000 at. Also, some municipalities offer additional grants – check your city’s website to see if you can benefit!
6. Obtaining privileges on the street
In Quebec, the government offers several benefits to people traveling with electric vehicles, such as: B. free or reserved parking, privileged access to lanes on the motorway or even free access to ferries and toll bridges.
7. Reduced maintenance costs
Electric vehicles do not require any moving parts in their engines. This reduces the number of possible breakages and makes them less prone to wear and tear, saving significant workshop costs every year.
