Climate activists are said to have blocked several bridges and roads and, among other things, strapped themselves to the roof of a car. Police arrested dozens of protesters.
Around 70 protesters were arrested during protests by environmental protection group Extinction Rebellion in the British capital, London. According to media reports on Sunday, activists blocked several bridges and roads, attached themselves to an oil tank and the roof of a car.
They wanted to reinforce calls for an immediate end to subsidies for coal, oil and gas.
Several scientists from the Scientist Rebellion subgroup were also arrested. They accused Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative government of ignoring scientific evidence.
In a recently introduced energy strategy, Johnson announced more oil drilling, as well as more funding for offshore wind farms and new nuclear plants.
