700 Airbus Atlantic employees reportedly fell ill after the company hosted a Christmas dinner.

Health authorities in France have launched an investigation into the incident after 700 of the 2,600 people present at the dinner became ill with “clinical signs of vomiting and/or diarrhea” after the dinner on December 14, and the staff fell ill at around the age of around 24, according to The Guardian up to 48 hours after dinner.

Airbus Atlantic hosted the party at a local restaurant in Montoir-de-Bretagne in western France.

Dinner was lobster, scallops, gars and tournedos, with desserts of hazelnut chocolate mousse and ice cubes.

French health authorities said they had not identified a cause that triggered the illnesses.

An employee named Nolwenn told the Ouest-France newspaper that the illness had been painful.

“I had colic and headaches like never before. It was worse than childbirth,” Nolwenn said.

An Airbus Atlantic spokesman told the broadcaster that no one was “seriously ill.”

“The case is currently being handled by the health authority, which is leading the investigation,” the spokesman said.

The secretary of Airbus Atlantic's operations committee, Jean-Claude Iribarren, told the French newspaper that the food was prepared in the company's canteen.
