72 hour ceasefire agreed in Sudan

After the RSF militia, the army in Sudan now agrees to a ceasefire.

In Sudan, the army agreed to a three-day ceasefire. This is due to start on Friday so that the Muslim festival of breaking the fast after Ramadan can be celebrated, the military said. “The armed forces expect the rebels to abide by all the terms of the ceasefire and not to take any military action that could interrupt the ceasefire.” The RSF militia had already agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire.

The country, rich in gold and oil, with about 46 million inhabitants, has been governed by a transitional military government since 2019, which was supposed to start a democratization process this month. Instead, a bloody power struggle broke out between the de facto president and supreme commander of the army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and his deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the RSF.
