That day Danny Durand-Laporte, a certain Alexandre Boulay and another person went to an apartment to meet a friend of Jimmy Lemire-Charlebois.
Later, the defendant, who did not know his victim personally, called Boulay on the pretext that there had been an “incident” similar to intimidation with his friend, as we read in the agreed statement of facts.
After bitter texts, a meeting was arranged in the parking lot of the Hotel Laliberté in Saint-Liboire.

The Hotel Laliberté in Saint-Liboire, near Highway 20, was raided by SQ investigators on August 12 and considered a crime scene following the death of Danny Durand Laporte on August 11, 2022.
Once there, “the defendant immediately points his gun at Alexandre Boulay, without either the victim or the victim having had time to say or do anything,” we explain.
A first shot from Lemire-Charlebois sparked an altercation between him and Boulay. Two more shots were fired without injuring anyone.
A fourth bullet will eventually hit Danny Durand-Laporte in the face, who was nearby at the time.
“At the time of the event, the firearm was never being used for self-defense,” the statement of facts emphasizes.

Panicked, the people accompanying Danny Durand-Laporte took him 40 kilometers further to Saint-Bernard-de-Michaudville, near a boat recently bought by Alexandre Boulay.
They first told authorities the victim “may have hit his head as he fell out of the boat.”
However, coroners and police inquiries contradicted their version.
no justice
Linda Laporte, the mother of the 31-year-old victim, did not hide her disappointment at the length of the sentence and left the courtroom.

Linda Laporte, Danny Durand-Laporte’s mother, was dissatisfied with the sentence passed on the murderer of her son, Jimmy Lemire-Charlebois.
“It’s awful,” commented Ms. Laporte, who believed justice had not been served.
The woman, who has suffered from depression since the death of her son, says she has lost the person who helped her the most in her battle with throat cancer.
“I’ll have to get through this alone, step by step,” she laments.
