A alligator A dog about 9 feet long attacked a dog near a pond in Constitution Park in Deerfield Beach.
The incident happened last Thursday, the reptile emerged from the water, opened its jaws, grabbed the dog and swam away, the animal’s owner told the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission, according to Local 10 News.
A man who frequents the park said it was surprising that there were still reptiles of this species in Deerfield.
After the animal was attacked, the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission sent a specialist to the pond to capture itthe alligator, near where children and pets often play.
The dog was found dead on Friday.
Sheila Kramer, a resident near the site, took video of the reptile after the specialist caught it and said she had never seen one there.
This tragic incident comes in addition to other similar cases in the state. In February of this year, a alligator killed an 85-year-old woman while defending her dog in St. Lucie County.
